Torch of Gold Award

Torch of gold Award is a council level recognition awarded to Kathy Armstrong.

This is awarded to individuals who have a record of rendering outstanding service and
leadership over a sustained period of time to Scouts with disabilities.  As a result of this
person's service, Scouts with disabilities are better enabled to reach their potential.

Kathy has provided extraordinary service to Scouts with Special Needs in Venturing
Crew 9720, chartered by The Arc of Dodge County.  Kathy has worked with these
scouts for 7 years, with the last 5 years as the crew advisor.  She along with other
volunteers, including some of the parents of the Special Needs Scouts have participated
in community service activities, most notable, assisting the local VFW Post in placing
United States flags on the grave sites of veterans who have served.  Additionally, each
year Kathy, along with other volunteers, bring their Scouts to a "Discovery Weekend"
camp-out, specifically for Scouts with special needs. Kathy  is wonderful in teaching
and caring for the needs of each of the crew members. We wish to recognize her with
this special "Gold Torch Award".
